Indias wine scene just got a serious level up as Chandon opened its doors to guests for tastings and tours at its all-new winery in Nashik.
I flew down from Delhi to Bombay and then drove further to Nashik to visit the Chandon Estate to celebrate alongside sommeliers with fresh notes of the amazing sparkling. Resembling the picture-perfect rolling landscapes of the French vineyards in Bordeaux and Burgundy, this state-of-the-art winery is a treat for the eyes from the moment you enter the gate. On my visit here, I stayed at The Gateway Hotel by Taj which was a breezy hour-drive away from the vineyard.
The sprawling 21-acre winery is nestled in Dindori (45 minutes away from the Nashik city), and yields three variants of Chandon – Chandon Brut, Chandon Brut Rosé and Chandon Delice.
On arrival, a paved driveway leads you to a lobby area with a tasting station at one end of the room. And once you step out, you’re onto a patio overlooking the manicured lawns with vineyards on either side. It honestly feels like you’re in France. Keep at it, and a corridor leads further down to the spacious winery which houses tanks, barrels, bottling and labelling lines, and the cellar stocked with precious wine ALL the way to the ceiling.
An absolutely fantastic trip – I can’t wait to go back!
